“With the years, I have noticed that beauty, like happiness, is frequent. Not a day goes by that we are not, for a moment, in paradise.”
This quote from the prologue to Jorge Luis Borges’s last book of poetry, “The Conspirators”, more than any other has resonated with me since I first came across it when studying Spanish American literature at the University of Barcelona in 1992. It shows us that eternity is not a state we reach and, however chaotic and unjust life may seem, there is a purpose. We only have to find it.
